• Yankees 9, Mariners 5: Filling in for an injured Alex Rodriguez, Eduardo Nunez hit the go-ahead single as the Yankees bounced back from Friday's shutout to beat the Mariners. Nunez's hit was the first of his career, and it helped spark a three-run inning. Javier Vazquez was shaky again, allowing two homers to Ichiro Suzuki and one long one to Russell Branyan. He didn't get an out in the fourth inning. But the Yankees' relief corps, including Chad Gaudin, Boone Logan, David Robertson and Mariano Rivera, bailed him out. CC Sabathia starts Sunday in a rubber game.
  • Mets 5, Pirates 1 (6 innings): Good news: The Mets will not go the entire season without winning a road series against a National League team. No matter how bad Mets fans think they have it, at least they don't have to root for the Pirates, who now have had 18 consecutive losing seasons. Jon Niese gets a cheap complete game for winning this rain-shortened affair. He struck out five and walked David Wright's three-run homer in the fifth inning helped blow the game open and encourage the umpires to call it after the rain did not subside.
  • Red Bulls 4, Toronto FC 1: Rafael Marquez scored his first goal with the Red Bulls and Juan Pablo Angel scored on a penalty as the Red Bulls became the first team to win in Toronto this season.
