With a 3-0 win over the Islanders, the Rangers moved into first place in the Eastern Conference, extended their winning streak to five games and continued their best start in 15 seasons. Henrik Lundqvist earned his third shutout of the year by stopping all 28 Islanders shots. Carl Hagelin started the scoring in the second period and then added a second goal with 6:32 gone in the third period. The 23-year-old now has six goals on the season, and it was a good night for the Swedes. Marian Gaborik, stat-padder that he is, bagged the empty-netter.
Any time the opposing goalie is credited with a goal, something didn't go right. That's what happened to the Devils, who fell 4-2 to the Hurricanes. They had trouble beating Cam Ward, who was credited with the empty-netter after a review. David Clarkson had a goal and an assist, and Johan Hedburg made 30 saves in the loss.
Thanks in large part to Kris Humphries' 21 points and 16 rebounds, the Nets rallied past a 21-point deficit against the Wizards en route to a 90-84 win. Humphries heard boos from the crowd -- everyone is still obsessed over that short-lived marriage -- but still managed to put up an outstanding stat line. Deron Williams had 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
