  • Yankees 5 Tampa Bay 0: New York opened the night 8-1/2 games behind the first place Rays and they ended it a game closer thanks to a dominant start from Andy Pettitte. Pettitte was brilliant over eight innings, allowing only four hits while not walking anyone. Derek Jeter provided the key hit with a two-out, two-RBI double in the third. New York added insurance runs in the eighth thanks to a home run from Melky Cabrera and RBI’s from Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano. The teams complete their abbreviated series this afternoon.
  • Mets 7 San Francisco 0: Maybe Sports Illustrated put the wrong 24-year old pitcher on its cover last week. Mike Pelfrey shutdown the Giants and out-pitched Tim Lincecum as the Mets cruised to an easy victory Tuesday. Pelfrey allowed three hits over seven innings and struck out five. He even added a hit at the plate. Carlos Beltran had three hits, including his 14th home run and drove in four. Delgado and Tatis also added home runs for the Mets.
  • San Antonio 83 Liberty 79: Shameka Christon had 27 points, but only shot 8-for-21 from the field. Becky Harmon also scored 27, thanks to a 14-for-15 night from the charity stripe.
