• Tampa Bay 4 Yankees 3: The Yankees dropped the series with Tampa and dropped out of first place. Phil Hughes made two mistakes, both to Dan Johnson and he hit two, two-run homers as a result. The first homer wiped out a 1-0 Yankees lead, the second erased a 3-2 lead the Yankees had taken on Curtis Granderson’s two-run homer. The loss leaves the Yankees 1-2 game out of first with just 16 games left in the season. They head to Baltimore next for a three-game set with the O’s.
  • Mets 8 Pittsburgh 7: A depressing season grew more so Wednesday as Jenrry Mejia injured his shoulder and had to be removed from the game in the third inning. It has been diagnosed as an acute muscle strain and he will get a MRI in the morning. The Mets won the game, thanks to a seven-run fourth inning, but it is hard to escape the feelings of doom hanging over this franchise right now.
