- Penguins 4, Islanders 2: A busy day for the Islanders didn't end with a win. They signed Mike Comrie to a contract extension, shipped off
resident thugwinger Chris Simon to the Minnesota Wild and also got rid of Marc-Andre Bergeron for a draft pick. Then they faced the depleted Penguins -- who made the biggest deal of the day in adding Marian Hossa -- and lost a bizarre game. They outshot the Pens 52-21, but it's not the shots that count.
- Hurricanes 2, Devils 1 (OT): Of the local teams, the Devils had the quietest trading deadline day, adding only Bryce Salvador from the Blues. Then they played a bitter struggle with the Hurricanes that ended as an overtime loss. New Jersey still has points in its last five games, but its five-game winning streak is history. Brian Gionta had the lone goal for the Devils.
- Magic 102, Nets 92: Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson and Marcus Williams all tried, but they couldn't outshine Orlando's Hedo Turkoglu. He went off for 17 points in the fourth quarter, the Nets allowed
SupermanDwight Howard his 50th double-double, and that was that. New Jersey is now 2-2 since they traded Jason Kidd. They'll be hard pressed to maintain their .500 record the rest of the way.
