Maybe Jesus Montero should have been on the Yankees earlier? The 21-year-old prospect has played four games as the Yankees' designated hitter, and his best effort came Monday when he hit two home runs in the Yankees' 11-10 win over the Orioles. Montero broke an 8-8 tie and also provided much-needed insurance. Both homers went the opposite way and helped the Yankees overcome a shaky start from Freddy Garcia. Mark Teixeira had a homer in the first inning and Robinson Cano had a grand slam, too. The Yankees lead the Red Sox by 2 1/2 games.
Jason Bay had a homer, but not else much went right for the Mets, who fell 9-3 in Florida. The Marlins led 2-0 after one and 6-1 after five. Chris Capuano allowed those six runs and saw his ERA rise to 4.63, which is not good in the National League. Bay's homer came in the ninth when the game was out of hand.
