• Red Sox 6, Yankees 3: Javier Vazquez may have picked up the loss in the series opener against Boston, but at least this time it wasn't entirely his fault. Sure, he allowed six runs, but only half of those were earned. An error on a fly ball by Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli helped the Red Sox to a three run 2nd inning. Cervelli was unable to catch a pop up along the first base line with the ball bouncing off the heel of his glove before going into foul territory. Seemingly unaware that a baserunner could advance on the play, Cervelli lazily retrieved the ball. Vazquez was able to get the inning's second out before allowing a nine-pitch walk, a bases loaded walk and a two-run double. Clay Buchholz kept the Yankees offense in check for the most part, allowing a two-run homer to Mark Teixeira in the 1st and just one more run in the 5th.
  • Phillies 7, Mets 5: Everything looked great for the Mets with Jon Niese on the mound. The lefty allowed only one run over seven innings as the Mets attempted to stay in the close to the top teams in the NL East. Unfortunately, the Mets bullpen, was unable to match Niese's performance. Bobby Parnell, Pedro Feliciano and Manny Acosta turned a one-run lead into a five-run deficit. The Mets are now one game under .500 and 8.5 games behind the Braves (who are currently tied in the 9th inning of their game).
