After a season-opening win against Toronto, the Knicks got a much tougher test against the Celtics. They failed in a 105-101 loss. A triple-double from Rajon Rondo overshadowed 27 points from Amar'e Stoudemire as the Knicks fell to 1-1. Landry Fields had a double-double, Raymond Felton had 17 points and Wilson Chandler had 19 off the bench. The Knicks host Portland on Saturday night to open their home schedule.

When the Nets had a 2 in the win column last season, they also had a 19 in the loss column. Now they are 2-0 after a 106-100 win over the Kings at home. Devin Harris had 21 points and 10 rebounds and helped lead a 17-3 surge at the end of the game.

Brian Boyle committed a costly penalty that set up the go-ahead power-play goal as the Rangers fell to the Hurricanes, 4-3, at home. Ryan Callahan, Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky had the Rangers goals.

Matt Martin scored in the second period but the Islanders still fell to Montreal, 3-1, despite outshooting the Canadiens, 31-26.

Patrik Elias scored 1:54 into the third period and Martin Brodeur made 27 saves as the Devils snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Anaheim.
