CC Sabathia carried a perfect game into the seventh inning—and through a 30-minute rain delay—but ended up setting for a seven-plus-inning outing in the Yankees' 4-1 win over the Mariners on Tuesday. The lefty bagged his 15th win and struck out 14 of the 25 Mariners to face him. Brendan Ryan broke up the perfect game with a clean single in the seventh. The only number bigger than the 17 straight losses suffered by Seattle is the 18 strikeouts they took Tuesday. David Robertson K'd two to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam bequeathed him by Sabathia, and Mariano Rivera added two more to get the save. Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira both hit their 28th home runs this season.

With unearned runs, the Mets made the Reds pay for their mistakes in an 8-6 win in the Queen City. The Reds made three errors—which led to six Mets runs off Johnny Cueto —as the Mets jumped out to a 4-0 lead but needed a pair of two-run innings in the sixth and seventh to come back for the second straight night. Daniel Murphy had three hits to add to his quietly strong year, and Jon Niese pitched five innings of five-run ball to pick up, though not earn, the win.
