Good news Yankees’ fans, you “only” have 3-1/2 more years of watching AJ Burnett pitch for your team. The weird part of Arizona’s 10-4 win on Monday was how quickly Burnett imploded. After retiring the first two hitters in the first, AJ totally lost it. It took him only nine pitches to retire the first two Arizona batters, but his next 15 pitches yielded 5 runs on three homers.
Burnett allowed another run in the second and the Yankees simply couldn’t recover from the 6-0 hole he created. New York recorded a few runs, but it was too little/too late as Justin Upton smacked two homers and drove in four while the Diamondbacks seemingly scored at will. The Yankees announced before the game that they will skip Phil Hughes’ next start, but considering Burnett’s recent work, they should quickly reconsider.
