Yankees 4 Boston 3 (10 Innings): Joe Girardi finally woke up and realized it might be nice to win one of these games against Boston, so he went back to starting Phil Hughes instead of Dustin Moseley. Hughes pitched pretty well and an A-Rod homer in the 7th put the Yankees up 2-1, but Mariano Rivera blew the save by allowing two runs in the ninth. Luckily, the Yankees scratched a run across in the ninth to tie and a walk to Juan Miranda forced in the winning run in the 10th. The magic number for a playoff spot is now 1 and the Yankees are only a ½-game behind Tampa for the AL East crown.

Jets 31 Miami 23: The Sanchize looked good and the defense did enough as the Jets jumped to the top of the AFC East. Sanchez threw for three TD’s, but the defense had to make a last stand with the Dolphins knocking on the door, to preserve the win.

Tennessee 29 Giants 13: Of all the ways to lose, perhaps this was the worst. The Giants lost because of their own mistakes. Two turnovers at the goal line (see below video of Eli Manning's left-handed throw), a safety, atrocious special teams play and plenty of dumb penalties added up to an embarrassing loss. The question is, where do the Giants go from here? While there are plenty of games left in the season, it feels like next week’s matchup with the Bears is do-or-die.

Mets 7 Philadelphia 3: The Mets pounded Cole Hamels to take the weekend series from the Phillies. Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI’s while Nick Evans added 3 hits and 2 RBI’s.
