Hisanori Takahashi put the Mets in a five-run hole. They fought back but couldn't complete the comeback or a sweep of the Tigers in a 6-5 loss to Detroit on Thrusday. Mets relievers pitched five scoreless innings in relief of Takahashi, but that couldn't undo the damage. Takahashi walked four and allowed two homers. The Mets offense that came too late included a three-run sixth. The Mets went meekly in the ninth against Jose Valverde. The Minnesota Twins visit Flushing this weekend.
