• Rangers 4 Anaheim 2: New York will head into the All-Star Break with a win, and a bit of a hot streak, having won four of their last five games before the break. Tuesday’s game was strange for two reasons. First, the Rangers scored four goals, a prolific output for them. But also because all four goals were scored with the Rangers on a power play or a penalty kill.

Markus Naslund got things going with a power play goal in the first and after Anaheim tied it, Freddy Sjostrum put them ahead again with a shorthanded goal. Anaheim tied it again at the end of the second, but Scott Gomez scored his first power play goal of the season to put them in front for good.

But Dan Girardi took a penalty that gave Anaheim a chance to tie the game on the power play and when they pulled their goalie, they had a six-to-four advantage for the final minutes of the game. It was Blair Bets who made the key play, blocking a shot and depositing the puck into the empty net for the final goal. Betts got the first star of the game and the Rangers will get a week off to rest up for the second half of the season.

  • Tough news for the Islanders: Rick DiPietro will miss the rest of the season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. Since DiPietro has 12 years left on his contract, the Islanders need to be very careful with him.
