- A's 6, Yankees 4: Things fell apart in the a six-run seventh inning, when Oakland scored five of its runs with two outs. Andy Pettitte took the loss, though he wasn't helped by reliever Alfredo Aceves, who was one pitch away from escaping with the game tied, 1-1. Five more runs scored after that pitch, and the Yankees had their winning streak snapped at eight. Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter each homered in an effort to bring the Yankees back, but it was not to be. Sergio Mitre wraps up a 10-game homestand on Sunday before the Yankees hit the road for nine games.
- Mets 10, Astros 3: Expect to see some more of Jon Niese this season. The rookie left-hander threw seven innings of one-run ball, striking out three and walking two to help the Mets win for the third time in nine games since the All-Star break. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first, the Mets added one in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to blow it open. Angel Pagan, Luis Castillo, Jeff Francoeur and Omir Santos all had two hits apiece. Livan Hernandez faces Brian Moehler in the finale of the Mets' 10-game trip.
