• Yankees 2, Detroit 1: CC Sabathia was able to pitch out of any jams he had gotten himself into yesterday afternoon, using double plays and a one-out infield fly in order to keep the Tigers scoreless for the seven innings he threw. Tiger ace Justin Verlander appeared to be outpitching Sabathia until the Yankees came up in the seventh. There A-Rod landed a short home run into the right field seats and Robinson Cano scored what ended up being the winning run on a Melky Cabrera infield single. The Yankees go for the sweep this afternoon in The Bronx.
  • Mets 5, Atlanta 1: By the sixth inning of yesterday's game against the Braves, the Mets hadn't scored in the span of two full games. They finally backed their way across the plate twice with a bases loaded walk and fielder's choice ground ball—but that was all that Johan Santana needed during yesterday's peak performance. Before that, Santana was facing a familiar situation against the Braves—pitching great but getting no support, a setup that had saddled him with an 0-4 record against Atlanta, despite an ERA hovering two against them. Yesterday's seven scoreless were enough to earn him his first win against the Braves, his eleventh on the year and the Mets first since returning from the All-Star Break. The Mets try to pull out a split for the series this evening.
