- Reds 3, Mets 1: Angel Pagan's solo homer in the first inning got the Mets off on the right foot, but things got worse. Jonathon Niese gave the run back in the third on a solo homer and then fell behind in the seventh when he allowed another solo homer and then an RBI double. He finished with 7 2/3 innings, eight strikeouts and one walk. That wasn't good enough, as the Mets got shut down by Bronson Arroyo. The Mets lost two of three from the Reds and have a day off before welcoming the first-place Braves.
- Yankees 6, Athletics 2: Nick Swisher, trying to make the All-Star Game through MLB's Final Vote, has made a great case for himself this week. That continued on Wednesday, when Swisher homered, doubled and added a single to help A.J. Burnett win for the first time in more than five weeks. The Yankees, who also got a homer from Mark Teixeira, had a five-run fourth to rally from an early deficit. Having swept Oakland, they're now moving on to Seattle for a four-game series before the All-Star Break.
