- Islanders 4 Toronto 3 (OT): Dwayne Roloson made an amazing 58 saves as he carried the Islanders to victory. Despite Roloson’s heroics, he did surrender a 3-0 lead as the Maple Leafs were rewarded for all their tenacity in the offensive end. But, Josh Bailey scored the game-winner in overtime, rewarding Roloson with a well-deserved win.
- Rangers 7 Columbus 4: You only get one timeout per game in hockey, so using it at the right time is vital. John Tortorella used it perfectly Monday night, blunting a Columbus rally and propelling his team to victory. New York fell behind 2-0 less than halfway through the first period and that prompted Torts to use his timeout. The Rangers responded almost immediately, scoring two goals in the next four minutes and adding another before the end of the first to take a 3-2 lead.
But, they weren’t finished and they exploded for three goals in just over a minute of the second period to bust the game open 6-2. Matt Gilroy added a seventh goal a little later and New York held on for the win.
Gaborik had a huge night with two goals and four points, while Avery added two goals of his own. Artem Anisimov had a goal and two assists and the Rangers won for the first time at home in three weeks.
