In a humorless Monday morning preview of the impending L-pocalypse, L train service was down between Bedford Avenue and 8th Avenue in both directions this morning.

Service resumed shortly before 10:00 a.m., but residual delays are expected.

The cause of this morning's sweaty nightmare was a report of smoke at the 1st Avenue L station in Manhattan, according to the FDNY. Firefighters responded at 9:04 a.m., and service was restored shortly before 10:00 a.m. There are no reported injuries.

In the meantime, the subway platforms spilled up onto the sidewalk, where the sun is beating down and everyone's shirt is probably sticking to their slumped and defeated shoulders.

The alternatives aren't looking that great either.

We'll keep you updated.
