A New Jersey family experienced every parent and child's worst nightmare early Thursday morning after police discovered an alleged knife-wielding burglar hiding under the bed of a 6-year-old boy.
Fair Lawn resident Darla Donahue called police around 3:45 a.m. on the suspicion that someone was in her home, CBS New York reports. When police arrived, they found 56-year-old Kenneth Webb hiding under her son's bed, having torn apart the room and allegedly collected change from the boy's piggy bank. Luckily, Donahue said her son had been in her room (where the closet contains monsters, but the door keeps them mostly contained).
“So far, everybody seems OK, but I guess we’ll see tonight when the lights have to go out to bed, because he didn’t want to go back to bed after all of that,” she told the station.
Webb has been charged with two counts of burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He allegedly first broke into another nearby house that belonged to one of his own relatives before hitting Donahue's home. Authorities believe he crept through an unlocked window.
