Around 9:50AM, a man was shot multiple times outside a day care center in South Jamaica. A baby-sitter had yelled, "Oh, my God, this is crazy! This is day care!" The victim, identified as 30-year-old Dwight Bent, was pronounced dead at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Apparently Bent was visiting someone in the 110th Avenue building, which both a residence and day care facility. The Times-Ledger reports that "two men wearing bandanas over their faces" approached Bent and his friend and then an argument broke out. The Daily News describes Bent's friend "grabbed Bent's bloody arm" and "dragged" him into the daycare center.
Police found nine bags of marijuana on Bent, who was on probation for selling drugs. No one else was injured and police quickly handed the children off to parents.
The police are still looking for the two gunman. They did recover two weapons, an AK-47 and a shot gun, from a home the suspects may be connected to (the weapon that killed Bent was a 9mm).
