It's a miracle worthy of a 24 season finale! Actor Kiefer Sutherland and Jack McCollough, the fashion designer Sutherland allegedly headbutted after the Costume Institute gala, issued a joint statement to the AP. Sutherland, "I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr. McCollough was injured," while the Proenza Schouler designer said, "I appreciate Mr. Sutherland's statement and wish him well."

Sutherland's alleged assault occurred because McCollough (allegedly) bumped into Brooke Shields at an after-party at the SubMercer bar. Sutherland had been chatting with Shields and apparently felt it was up to him to demand an apology from McCollough—and headbutt him. (Shields later, at least according to TMZ, blamed some of the incident on her 6" heels.) A few days later, Sutherland turned himself into the police—receiving a desk appearance ticket—and McCollough was walking around with a bandage over his broken nose.

While the Manhattan DA's office didn't say whether the charges against Sutherland would be dropped, the Post explains, "a prosecutor may go before a judge and ask that the case be dropped. That could happen at Sutherland's next scheduled court appearance on June 22." And if charges are dropped, it could mean he didn't violate his probation related to a 2007 DUI in LA.

Before the statement was released, the 24 actor was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon; Fallon, who was at the same party, asked, "Do you think you're Jack Bauer?" to which Sutherland said, "Absolutely not, absolutely not."

The Daily News reports, "Sutherland's camp wouldn't say if he would cover McCollough's doctor bills."
