2005_05_carsonstreet.jpgA Brooklyn couple was arrested yesterday after leaving three children in a parked car while they shopped in SoHo. The NY Post reports that Amaurys Gonzalez and Clara Rodriguez were "charged with endangering the welfare of a child and child neglect," after they left their 1 year old daughter with Rodriguez's 11 year old brother and 6 year old son inside their car at 6:30PM, on the corner of Prince and Crosby. Someone who had noticed the kids in the car for 45 minutes then got the police involved, who took the kids out of the car. When the couple found their empty car, they freaked out and headed to the "precinct house at around 8:30 p.m., where they were arrested." This story made Gothamist think back to our own childhood, when we were frequently left in a parked car, usually double parked, when our parents would do grocery shopping in Chinatown. Would they have been arrested? Or is seeing a child in a double parked car de rigeur there? All we know is that we were frightened that we'd be arrested, because even back at age six, Gothamist knew double parking was no good.
