John Oliver (verbally) shredded the Confederate flag during a very funny "Last Week Tonight" segment examining the South Carolina legislature's refusal to lower their flag outside the Capitol to half staff in the wake of the Charleston church massacre. In the course of Oliver's skewering, we learn that it is actually impossible for the Confederate flag at the Capitol to be lowered because the staff was built in such a way that it is fixed in place.

"The confederate flag is one of those symbols that should really only be seen on T-shirts, belt buckles, and bumper stickers to help the rest of us identify the worst people in the world," Oliver opines, to rapturous applause from the Yankee audience. Oliver then proceeds to tell South Carolina exactly what they can do with their flag, and we're sure they'll take the jolly British man's advice to heart.
