The NYPD is hunting for a potentially-injured thief who managed to make off with diamonds, gold, and electronics even as he was hobbling around on crutches
Police say the man burglarized three residential apartments within a building at 320 West 56th Street on Tuesday, July 26th. During crime spree he stole a diamond necklace, gold bracelet, Rolex watch, numerous pairs of earrings, a Microsoft tablet and a Macbook Pro. Security footage recovered from the building revealed that the man was on crutches and wearing a medical boot during all three incidents.
“We came home, the door was turned a little bit, we walked in and it looked normal and we saw my boyfriend’s brand new laptop was gone,” Emily Dafilou, whose third-floor apartment was among those burglarized, told CBS 2. The outlet reports that wanted posters with images of the man on crutches have been pinned up around the building.
Dafilou wonders whether the crutches were legitimate, or a clever disguise to get tenants to let down their guard. “I think it was pretty sneaky so I would have held the door open for him too,” she said.
