Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be out six to 10 weeks because he'll need surgery for his broken jaw after getting punched in the face by teammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali.

Enemkpali, a linebacker, has been released.

The Jets' new coach Todd Bowles broke the news, saying that Smith was "cold-cocked" and "sucker-punched." This revelation came after Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey was praising Smith's progress. Smith was booed mercilessly during a Jets scrimmage this past weekend because many fans and former Jets don't believe he's good enough:

Back-up Ryan Fitzpatrick will sub in for Smith. One diehard Jets fan described Fitzpatrick (a veteran player) and the situation thus: "Doesn't make mistakes but doesn't make great plays. Just solid. But that could be OK with the outstanding defense they have. Gonna try to win games with low scores, like 13-10 or whatever." Or whatever—that's like the Jets' motto!

Update: Former Jets QB Michael Vick has Tweeted:

And Geno has 'grammed:

ILL BE BACK!
