Last week, after the Jets traded a conditional 2011 draft pick for San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie, there's been much attention about how Cromartie has seven children with six women in five states (and, yes, there may be a partridge in a pear tree). Now, it turns out the Jets may have advanced Cromartie $500,000 to clear up some paternity payments.
While the Jets didn't confirm the move, a source told the Post, "This is his unfortunate burden and he's taking care of it. He's got some time constraints on payments and [the Jets] did help him out with that. They've certainly helped with everything and that's going to make life easier for him."
On Friday, Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum referred to how Cromartie had "some work to do" before coming here, and Cromartie himself told reporters, "Those are my kids, and they’re my responsibility. I made some wrong decisions in my first two years (in the NFL), and I have to take on that responsibility."
