You may have heard a rumor flying around this morning that the beloved Kentile Floors sign, famously visible from the elevated subway tracks in Gowanus, was being taken down this week. But we've confirmed that this rumor is not true, and that the sign is here to stay.

"The sign's not going anywhere," we were told by Bryan Kanarek of BKR Partners, who represents Regal Home Collection, the company that owns the building. "We love the sign. We have a lot of respect for it."

Kentile Floors, which employed over 400 people in the Gowanus factory in the 60's, filed for bankruptcy in 1992 (Touting their generous use of asbestos probably didn't help). The former factory, located at the corner of 9th Street and 2nd Avenue, is now parceled out among a number of small businesses.
