A pregnant woman and her 10-year-old daughter were run over in Brooklyn last night by a parking attendant who was allegedly using the vehicle for personal use.

Police say Suri Friedman, 33, and her daughter Blima, 10, were crossing 60th Street near the intersection of 18th Avenue in Borough Park around 9 p.m. when they were hit by the driver of a Honda Odyssey minivan: Bilal Ghumman, 22. The girl was pronounced DOA at Maimonides Medical Center, while her pregnant mother was reportedly pinned under the vehicle. From the Daily News:

The desperate mother, apparently pinned under the vehicle, remained conscious after the collision and screamed for her severely injured daughter as both lay on the ground, witnesses said.

“We saw the lady and her child on the ground. She was in shock,” said witness Angel Santos, 18, who was walking to a bodega when he came upon the scene. “She was still on the ground. She was screaming, ‘Oh my God, is (she) OK? Is (she) OK?’”

The frantic woman was also grasping her belly, apparently in the first throes of labor, witnesses said. "She was holding her stomach, she looked like she was in pain,” said Jasmine Torres, 19.

Suri Friedman was rushed to Lutheran Hospital, where she gave birth to a baby girl. Both are reportedly in stable condition.

Ghumman remained at the scene and was ultimately arrested—not for running over the Friedmans, but for "unauthorized use of a vehicle without owner consent." JP Updates reports that Ghumman "worked for a valet parking car company, and instead of parking the minivan, Ghumman used the 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan for his personal needs without the owner’s permission."

He was was also charged with Violation of Local Law for an outstanding marijuana warrant. The NYPD Criminal Investigation Squad is investigating to determine if other criminal charges will be filed.
