There were a number of people injured or killed during vehicle crashes over the weekend. Yesterday afternoon, a livery cab went out of control at Flatbush and Glenwood in Brooklyn. The cab jumped a curb, after, per WABC, taking down a traffic light and street sign, and hit three pedestrians before crashing into a nail salon. A 51-year-old man and 16-year-old are in critical condition; a 15-year-old boy is in stable condition with a head injury. It's unclear why the cab was out of control, but police believe speeding may have played a part.
An 18-month-old boy was killed when a neighbor's car ran over him yesterday evening in Midwood. The Post says that Michael Evans was playing under his mother's supervision when an 84-year-old neighbor didn't see the child when she backed out. A first responder told the Post, "The baby was on the sidewalk and somebody backed out of the driveway - the kid was in the driveway. They said they had nothing against the woman driver, it's an accident."
Other: The Times reports a 58-year-old man died after driving his car "through a fence and into a parked car at 3:45AM" early Sunday at Pennsylvania Avenue and Belt Parkway. The NY Times also mentions that a motorcyclist was killed when his bike crashed into a car Saturday night in Brownsville; the passenger is in stable condition. And a truck driver's brakes failed on the 59th Street Bridge and the truck hit a motorcyclist who was then mangled beneath a Q39 bus; while the condition of the biker is not clear, the truck driver told the Post, "I was pumping the brake. I couldn't stop. I hope he's okay."
