Devandra Shukla, a former priest at an ashram in Corona, Queens, is suing the ashram for allegedly paying him "slave wages" and forcing him to perform janitorial work. Shukla claims he was promised $500 a week plus room and board, but was paid a mere $2,100 over seven years. He also claims he was forced to clean and repair the ashram and work at owner Satya Sharma's construction company. It's unclear how the owners forced him to stay for seven years under this treatment, and Sharma claims Shukla is just trying to get a green card. Umm, he didn't have one?
