The MTA shut down the subway system on Sunday night, to prepare for Hurricane Sandy, and today the agency expressed concerns about salt water corroding switches. Now, the MTA says, "Up to four feet of water was observed at a Lower Manhattan station."

While the MTA also Tweeted, "Rumors are wrong. The MTA cannot assess damage until Tuesday. It is way too early for a subway reopening timetable," but it's possible it could take four days to pump out water from downtown subway lines.
