We hope you are enjoying the frigid temperatures today (HA!) because, well, it is about to get worse. Though the City's Office of Emergency Management hasn't issued a heat advisory yet don't worry. They will. Because with temperatures expected to be near 100° combined with humidity to make it feel like 105°, how could they not? Which is to say: Saturday is going to be so much fun you guys!
So, what to do? Well, you can always stay at home and fire up the Netflix (we've got options for you!), or throw on a thong and scare some parkgoers, visit a public pool (just be prepared for lines!), stand outside a fancy store and enjoy some free AC, go get drunk at an ice cold bar, or visit a cooling center (just don't be too young). The city also has some tips for you [PDF].
Most important though? Drink water to avoid dehydration and please: Check in on any vulnerable family, friends and neighbors. As NYC Health Commissioner Thomas Farley points out:
"Prolonged heat exposure can kill. There are hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who are vulnerable because of age or health conditions. After several days of hotter than normal summer weather and more extreme heat on the way, it is important for New Yorkers check in on your vulnerable family, friends, and neighbors, especially if they don’t have air conditioning or live alone. Make sure they are in an air-conditioned place and they’re staying hydrated.
