More than a week after the first playing of the "Tsunami" song parody, Hot 97 has finally suspended its morning show staff indefinitely. The station decided that just having Miss Jones and others apologize and donate money was not enough, after outrage from fans, Asian mediawatch groups, and politicians, plus advertisers like Sprint and McDonald's pulling out from advertising. However, people are speculating whether the suspension is a real reprimand or for show, as well as whether Hot 97 is just trying to placate people. The debate about the incident has been very interesting to Gothamist, given that there's accusations of racism from all corners, but most of all, people agree that this was stupid and every careless act that promotes hate should be looked at just as closely.
