Yesterday afternoon, during a race at the Aqueduct, two horses collided, resulting in multiple fractures for jockey Jason Gracia and a fractured skull for horse Ryan and Jack. The 4-year-old gelding was euthanized afterwards; a veteran Aqueduct worker said, "It was the worst accident I've seen."

Ryan and Jack apparently stumbled during the third race. According to the Daily News, "It looked like nothing serious until Ryan and Jack got up directly in the path of October Dreams, who ran full speed into the horse, injuring Gracia in the process." A witness said that October Dreams' jockey Jose "Bermudez was going full speed. His horse didn't even have time to slow down. Bermudez hit Gracia really hard and the two horses were entangled. It was a bad collision."

Gracia, 28, suffered fractured ribs, a broken collarbone, and a hairline fracture of his neck; he is remaining at Jamaica Hospital for observation. October Dreams did not appear injured and his jockey, Jose Bermudez, was not seriously injured and released from the hospital with bruised ribs.
