With the sting from the R.A. Dickey trade still fresh, the Mets have a new controversy on their hands: new Met Noah Syndergaard, the 20-year-old pitcher who was one of a few newbies sent over from Toronto to replace the reigning Cy Young winner, tweeted out a homophobic slur earlier this month.
The Daily News screencapped the Dec. 9 tweet from Syndergaard's handle, which read, "@DMarze89 nice crocs fag lol," and was supposedly meant for Blue Jays minor league player Dayton Marze. Someone has since deleted the tweet, and the team says they're investigating the incident. In an introductory press conference with the new players today, Syndergaard reportedly apologized for the tweet.
Of course, he's neither the first Blue Jay nor first Met to get caught dropping one such slur of late.
