A homeless man who was discovered unconscious in a Bushwick park early Monday morning was severely beaten by multiple assailants and is now in critical condition.
A spokesman for the NYPD said that officers responded to Hope Ball Field opposite 203 Menahan Street in Bushwick around 6:00 a.m. on Monday. There, they discovered the victim unconscious and unresponsive. According to the police report, the victim had been struck in the head "numerous times." A witness on the scene told officers that the attack had taken place around 4:00 a.m., and that four men had been seen fleeing the park.
According to an FDNY spokesman, the department received a call at 6:08 a.m. EMTs found the victim unconscious at 6:14 a.m., and transported him to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.
The Post reports that the victim was a homeless man who went by the name Chivo. According to the tabloid, Chivo had been with a female friend earlier that morning, but was alone when he was beaten. According to the tabloid, police found him underneath a park bench.
As of Tuesday morning, the NYPD has not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
