Police believe they've caught the man responsible for a violent rampage in Williamsburg and Greenpoint Monday night. Edgar Marrero, 24, is charged with Rape, Attempted Rape, Burglary, Robbery, Forcible Touching, and Sexual Abuse. Investigators picked him early Tuesday morning, where he was found sleeping on the landing of a building in the area. The official NYPD account of his alleged crimes is appalling:

1. On Monday, August 12, 2013 at approximately 2000 hours the suspect knocked on the door of an apartment in the confines of the 94 Precinct. The victim, F/A/27 opened the door and the suspect struck her in the face knocking her unconscious. When the victim awakened the suspect was on top of her sexually assaulting her. The victim began to fight off the suspect and screamed causing him to flee with her cell phone and laptop. The victim was removed to Woodhull Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

2. At approximately 2145 hours, the suspect entered an unlocked door of an apartment in the vicinity of Russell Street and Driggs Avenue, in the confines of the 94 Precinct and forced the victim, F/H/40 onto the couch. The victim's screams alerted her husband who fought the suspect off her. He subsequently fled the apartment with her cell phone. No serious injuries were sustained from this incident.

3. At approximately 2205 hours, as the victim, F/W/44 was securing her bicycle to a pole at Kingsland Avenue and Nassau Avenue, in the confines of the 94 Precinct, the suspect approached her, struck her in the face with a bag and sexually assaulted her. No serious injuries were sustained from this incident.

4. At 2223 hours the suspect entered an unlocked door of an apartment located in the vicinity of Norman Avenue and Kingsland Avenue, in the confines of the 94 Precinct. Once inside, the suspect forced the victim, F/W/37 onto the couch. The victim's screams alerted her roommate who fought the suspect off her. He subsequently fled the apartment in unknown direction with a cell phone and laptop computer. No serious injuries were sustained from this incident.

Yesterday we spoke to one of the victims, a Greenpoint resident who saved his wife from being raped in their Engert Avenue home (#2 on the list above). Juan Gonzalez was in bed when he heard his wife screaming, and emerged to find her on the floor with her skirt up and a man attempting to rape her. He was able to fight the man off, but was cut across his throat and his stomach with a key. Meanwhile, his wife—who is disabled from a car accident—grabbed a kitchen knife.

After showing us his scars, John Gonzalez said he wishes his wife had stabbed the assailant. "I don't know why she didn't stab him," Gonzalez told us. "He was attacking us and I was telling her to defend herself and stab him!" Instead, the suspect bolted from the apartment, grabbing his wife's cell phone on the way out.

A police source tells the Post the stolen property was found by Marrero when was picked up, adding, "Right now we've connected him to at least one of the incidents but we believe very strongly that he is responsible for all three crimes. It's one of those things where, if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, we can pretty much say that this is the guy."
