A van driver ran over a teenage girl in Queens shortly after midnight this morning and left her to die in the street.

Police say the 16-year-old girl, who has not yet been publicly identified pending family notification, was crossing Sunrise Highway in the southeast crosswalk at the intersection of Francis Lewis Boulevard shortly after 12:15 a.m. Investigators believe she was killed by the driver of a dark colored van traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway.

Police and EMS responded to the scene, where they found the 16-year-old unconscious and unresponsive in the road. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The van driver did not stop and kept going east. Police say they are still investigating.
