A 13-year-old boy is hospitalized after a driver struck him in a hit-and-run yesterday evening, according to police.

The teenager was crossing the intersection of Broadway and Henderson Avenue in West Brighton at around 5:46 p.m. yesterday when he was struck by the driver of a Chrysler Concord on Henderson Avenue, according to police. SI Live reports that police were trying to pull the driver over for a traffic infraction at the time, and the driver struck the teen while trying to evade cops. Cops say the driver struck a pole after hitting the boy, then fled the scene on foot.

The victim, who was crossing the street with his younger brother, was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in critical but stable condition. The impact broke both his legs; his brother was not injured.

Police say the suspect is in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches and wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a doo rag.
