The heat wave continues! Today will be the fifth straight day with a high in the 90s. With dew points in the lower 70s it is going to feel more like the lower 100s than the expected high of 94. Thanks to that combination of heat and humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for this afternoon and evening. If you want to beat the heat today try the North Fork of Long Island; Greenport's high will be in the lower 80s.

The humidity isn't just near the ground. This morning's weather balloon launch shows the air to be near saturation for several miles above the ground. With a cold front approaching tonight we can expect the chance of showers and thunderstorms to increase as the day progresses. Some of the early evening storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

Much drier air arriving behind the cold front means tomorrow won't be nearly as uncomfortable as today. Still, Tuesday's high will again reach the mid 90s under sunny skies. It looks like Wednesday and Thursday will also hit the lower 90s, with humidity returning on Thursday. It looks like we will finally get a break from the heat at the end of the week as Friday's high is expected to be a near-normal 84 degrees.
