The NYPD is searching for a man who escaped their custody in handcuffs during a traffic stop in the Bronx.
Police say that 23-year-old William Monge-Betancourt was speeding through Harlem in a 2011 Honda Accord at 126th Street and Lexington Ave around 10 p.m. last night, and pulled him and his passenger over on the Cross Bronx Expressway near the exit at 181st Street and Haven Avenue.
An NYPD release states that Monge-Betancourt and his unnamed passenger were "in possession of a quantity of narcotics and marijuana," and were in the process of being arrested, when Monge-Betancourt "wrestled free" from their arresting officer, injuring the officer's hand in the process. Monge-Betancourt then fled across the expressway against oncoming traffic and out of sight of the officers. The passenger was arrested and taken into custody.
