President Obama and Mitt Romney have shown no interest in discussing gun control in the wake of July's Aurora shooting, but Mayor Bloomberg has continued to press the issue. Today a new ad debuted by the group Bloomberg co-founded, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and features survivors of last year's Tuscon calling on voters to "demand a plan" from Obama and Romney. "48,000 people will be murdered with guns during the next president's term," the script reads. "That's 3 Aurora shootings every day."

Among those featured in the ad is Colonel William Badger, a retired Army Colonel and registered Republican who was shot in the back of the head by Jared Loughner, but managed to tackle him before he could reload.

Last month Mayor Bloomberg wondered why law enforcement didn't strike en masse until new gun laws are put into place. "I don't understand why the police officers across this country don't stand up collectively and say we're going to go on strike. We're not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what's required to keep us safe." Bloomberg is anticipated to use his wealth and influence to devote even more time for "crime control" advocacy after he leaves office.

The new ad will run on CNN, FOX, and MSNBC.
