The NY Times sent reporters to the houses of the leading candidates for governor, Andrew Cuomo and Carl Paladino, to see what kind of Halloween candy they were giving out. Cuomo, dressed in "a crisp white shirt and blood-red tie" (not quite a costume), gave four pieces of candy ("Laffy Taffy, Butterfinger, Kit Kat and Three Musketeers") while Paladino wasn't home but wife Cathy Paladino, dog Duke and advisor John Haggerty (yeah, that John Haggerty) were handing out "Junior Mints, Dots, Kit Kat and Tootsie Rolls." Haggerty jokingly told Duke to bite the reporter.

Other fun facts: Cuomo's Mount Kisco home was elaborately decorated with pumpkins and bales of hay by lifestyle guru Sandra Lee, while the Paladinos' Buffalo residence wasn't too decked out (Cathy Paladino chalked it up to the busy campaign season). Also: "Mr. Paladino, the Republican nominee, usually dresses up as whatever his children demand. Previous costumes: a beast, Count Dracula and a monster. This year, the campaign said, he would dress as governor. Mr. Paladino was seen darting out of the house in street clothes around 5 p.m."
