A Greenpoint woman sustained a head injury while fighting off a would-be rapist who knocked on her door Thursday afternoon and asked for "Jeffrey."

The 37-year-old victim, who resides in the vicinity of Meeker Avenue and Kingsland Avenue, answered her apartment door around 3:30 p.m. to find an unidentified man standing there. During their brief exchange, the man forced his way inside, shoving the victim into her bedroom. Once there, he told the woman he had a knife in his bag and demanded that she "perform a sex act on him," according to investigators.

Police say the woman punched the intruder in the groin and then tried to flee the apartment. He tackled her and tried to tear off her dress. She screamed, and the man proceeded to strike her with the door, causing a laceration to the back of her head.

The suspect then fled the location. The victim was taken to Woodhull Hospital and treated for her injuries.

Police say the man is in his mid-20s, approximately 6'2", with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black short-sleeved shirt, beige pants and black shoes.

The NYPD released this security camera video of the suspect:
