A 37-year-old man died Monday night while attempting to protect his girlfriend's 15-year-old daughter from a drunk man whose friend ultimately stabbed him to death, according to authorities.

The NYPD says that the victim, Zbigniew Truszkowski, was stabbed in the torso at around 8:37 p.m. on Monday after engaging in a dispute with a male suspect inside the vestibule of his home on Dupont Street near Manhattan Avenue. Truszkowski was transported to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead.

The Post reports that Truszkowski, who worked at a nearby bakery, had been attempting to protect 15-year-old Sara Puk from a drunk man who was harassing her and her friends. Truszkowski was Puk's mother's live-in boyfriend, according to the tabloid, and Puk called to him for help when the suspect and his friends started smashing the windows of her friend's car.

One of the suspect's friends allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Truszkowski when he came to Puk's aid. "I loved him," she told the tabloid. "He died protecting me." Though no arrests have been made yet, the NYPD has reportedly identified Truszkowski's killer.

This isn't the first time Puk has been in the news—in 2012, she was brutally attacked by a group of teenage girls at the McCarren Park Pool. The incident was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube, and Puk sustained a broken nose that required surgery after the assault.
