Great whites aren't just living off the coast of idyllic beach vacation spots, they're right here in the 5 boroughs. Which means every time you go into the water here you run the risk of getting eaten by a bloodthirsty killing machine—that's just life and nature and how it is. But don't believe our scaremongering, believe the facts.

This weekend some fishermen off the coast of Rockaway caught a great white, DNAInfo reports:

"Steve Fernandez, 29, and his friends were on the water Sunday when they spotted a great white toward the rear of the boat that was an estimated 10-feet long. 'I've seen them off shore, never really this close,' said Fernandez, who works in the insurance industry. 'There's no magical fence that keeps them off the beach. They swim wherever they want to go.'"

And it looks like they want to go closer to shore, closer to you.
