Last night was an unfortunate one for drivers. Not that there aren't a lot of accidents all the time sadly, but the early hours had some particularly upsetting stories:

- Around 11:20 p.m. a drunk driver mowed down a pedestrian, a light pole, a mailbox and just missed another couple of pedestrians on Fifth Avenue near 30th. The pedestrian was in critical condition as of this morning.

- Around 3:30 a.m., a young man who had just been accepted into the Police Academy died "after being hurled out of his car and off the 59th Street Bridge." He was driving to fast around a curve and lost control. Be grateful the Post didn't put the photos from the print edition online.

- Finally around 4:30 a.m., a 21 year-old woman whose car had been towed by the NYPD was walking across the West Side Highway with a friend at 39th street when she was hit and killed by a speeding black Infinity. The car then made a quick U-turn and slammed into another car. "The male driver, his female companion, and two other males in the backseat, then got out of the car and ran off on foot." Police are now looking for all four.

See what we mean? So please, especially when it's as icky outside as it is today, look both ways when crossing, drive carefully, and for Pete's sake, drive sober!
