While the Jets are focusing all their energy on signing Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, the Giants have been engaged in a flurry of activity today. The team cut longtime linesmen Shaun O'Hara and Rich Seubert (as well as Tiki Barber, who was on the team's reserve/retired list), while running back Brandon Jacobs has agreed to a contract restructuring (for less money), ensuring the team will be able to re-sign fellow running back Ahmad Bradshaw.

But the big news of the day is that wide receiver Plaxico Burress has officially been reinstated as a player in the NFL by commissioner Roger Goodell, after serving close to two years in jail for shooting himself in the leg with a gun in a NYC nightclub. He is planning to meet with Giants coach Tom Coughlin today at 6 p.m., and later fly out to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

General Manager Jerry Reese said the team was serious in their pursuit of the free agent: "We wouldn't bring him in here just for the fun. We don't operate like that. We do our due diligence...He's got a meeting with Tom tonight and we will see what comes out of that meeting and we will move forward from there. That meeting is probably the most important issue right now." And hey, if that doesn't work out, and the team still wants to make a big statement, there's always a certain sexting 41-year-old grandfather who is always waiting in the wings for one more go in the big show.
