Aw, check it out: Mayor Bloomberg has donated $125 million to stop smoking around the world. His statement: "Tobacco is the world's leading killer. We have the proven means to reduce tobacco use, but policymakers are not yet applying these interventions." Next, the Mayor looks into noise bans and other quality of life measures that he can apply globally, as he starts to think strategically about presidential run!
However, the Mayor isn't supporting another kind of lung legislation - benefits for Ground Zero rescures and workers who have been affected by the dust there. Governor Pataki signed three bills into legislation yesterday that will give benefits to victims and their families; Bloomberg's concern is that the city can't pay for it.
