An unidentified thief hijacked a construction forklift and used it to flip a Parks Department car in Brooklyn Bridge Park early Saturday morning. According to police, the forkjacking happened at about 2 a.m. after a construction worker likely left the keys inside.
After seizing control of the equipment, the vandal used it to flip a 2015 Nissan Leaf belonging to the city. A Walk in the Park reports that the Nissan had been charging near the Park's headquarters office at 334 Furman Street at the time. Other property, including a small trailer and metal barricades, were wrecked by the operator of the boosted forklift.
Parks Enforcement Patrol officers discovered the wreckage at about 9 a.m. Saturday morning, NBC NY reports. Officers told the news outlet they were unsure whether the Nissan was intentionally flipped. An investigation is ongoing.
